The main reason to choose Sainsbury's Energy over E.ON Next directly is Nectar. As a customer, you can earn extra Nectar points on your Sainsbury's shopping, up to triple points while you're on your tariff, and there are bonus points for signing up to eligible tariffs.
To collect them, link your Nectar account when you sign up and keep shopping as normal.
Don't let the points decide for you. Nectar rewards are a nice extra, but they're usually worth far less than the difference between a cheap and an expensive energy tariff. Compare the price first, then factor in the points.
Sainsbury's Energy scores 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 3,000 reviews, with around 80% of reviewers giving five stars.

Sainsbury's Energy launched in 2011 as a partnership between Sainsbury's and British Gas. That partnership ended in 2019, when its customers were moved to British Gas.
Sainsbury's then relaunched the brand with a new partner, npower. When npower became part of E.ON, Sainsbury's Energy moved with it, and it is now run by E.ON Next under licence. E.ON Next handles the energy supply, billing and customer service.
Were you with Sainsbury's Energy before 2019? Your account moved to British Gas when the original partnership ended. See our British Gas review, or our E.ON Next review for more on the current supplier.
All suppliers, including Sainsbury's Energy, must publish the mix of fuels used to generate the electricity they supply, along with its environmental impact. This is known as the Fuel Mix Disclosure and is published every year.
All Sainsbury's Energy tariffs come with 100% renewable electricity, backed by Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates.

Sainsbury's Energy is a good option if you shop at Sainsbury's and want to earn extra Nectar points, with the reassurance of a large supplier behind it and strong Which? scores.
It isn't suitable if you have a prepayment meter, and its tariff range is short, with no specialist deals for EVs or heat pumps. If you need those, E.ON Next's own tariffs may suit you better.
As always, compare prices using your own postcode and usage before switching.
