EDF is one of the UK's largest energy suppliers, providing gas and electricity to millions of homes and businesses. It is part of the French EDF Group, and in the UK it is best known as the country's biggest producer of low-carbon electricity, thanks to its fleet of nuclear power stations.
EDF offers a wide range of tariffs, from standard variable and fixed deals to specialist tariffs for electric vehicles, heat pumps and homes with solar panels. It is also part of the Warm Home Discount scheme and supplies prepayment customers.
EDF is a big, financially secure supplier with a strong range of specialist tariffs and a 4.8 Trustpilot score. Independent surveys are less kind, though, with low Which? scores and a middling Citizens Advice rating, so it is worth comparing prices and service before you switch.

EDF's reviews tell two different stories depending on where you look.
On Trustpilot, EDF scores 4.8 out of 5 from more than 235,000 reviews, with customers often praising its app and energy tracking tools. It also won silver awards for customer satisfaction and customer service at the 2025 Uswitch Energy Awards.
Which? is much less positive. In its survey from September and October 2025, EDF scored 58% overall, finishing joint 14th out of 17 suppliers. It received two stars out of five in every customer category, including customer service, value for money and ease of contacting.
Which? did give EDF 9 out of 10 for the help it offers vulnerable customers, but it scored low on contacting the supplier and on switching.
Citizens Advice gave EDF a customer service rating of 2.96 out of 5 for April to June 2026, placing it 10th among suppliers.

The UK business was formed in the early 2000s through a series of acquisitions that brought together London Electricity, SEEBOARD and SWEB Energy, and it has been one of the UK's 'Big Six' suppliers ever since.

EDF is worth considering if you want the reassurance of a large, financially secure supplier, or if you need a specialist tariff for an EV, heat pump or solar panels, where its range is stronger than most. Its fixed deals can also be competitive, so it is worth seeing where it lands in a comparison.
On the other hand, its Which? and Citizens Advice scores suggest that service can be patchy, and its fuel mix is mainly nuclear rather than renewable, which may matter to you if you're after a green tariff.
